Venture Camp

We had our church summer kid's camp (Venture Camp) from July 10 - 13. This is the third year that I've been involved, but the first year that I have been kid free while volunteering! Caleb and Andy were mini-campers and had such a great time with Miss Julie, while Jakey was in heaven while Miss Kayla held him and served his every whim all day. There was singing, crafts and activities for the boys where Caleb and Andy made some beautiful beach pails and birdhouses. The Tualatin Hills Fire Department came with their smoke house so the boys learned what to do if there's a fire. They also learned how to make some yummy yogurt parfaits!

Our little traveler

I was commenting to Paul the other day that it's so funny how we do things with three little kids that we wouldn't dream of doing when we had only one, or even two! So far this summer we've taken Jakey on a family vacation to Sun River, tent camping near Mt. Hood and trailer camping at Fort Stevens. I must say he has become quite the traveler. What a great kid!

Geocaching

While we were in Sun River, our friends Scott and Nicole took us geocaching. Caleb and Andy loved it! We got our own GPS unit so that we could go out on our own and it's become one or our favorite family activities. Most people take trinkets or toys to trade with what's in each geocache; Caleb's favorite treasure so far is an American Idol microphone and Andy is collecting all the balls that he can. The boys are always asking to go "treasure hunting"!

What a busy summer!

I've been meaning to update the blog but we've been so busy! After a wonderful time in Sun River we came home, only to start Venture Camp (our church's summer camp) the next day. I was teaching, so the boys went to mini-camp and had a wonderful time! This past weekend we took our tent trailer to Fort Stevens in Astoria and had a weekend camping trip. It was rainy but we had a blast! The boys sure like camping. We've also been enjoying having Uncle Paul and Aunt Peggy visiting with us this summer. It will be hard to see them go.

Hello from Sun River!

We've come to Sun River for a wonderful family vacation! Aunt Peggy, Uncle Paul, Aunt Becky, Uncle Michael and Grandma and Grandpa are all here with us and we are having so much fun! Caleb has requested that we stay here for ever and ever. The boys are loving all the attention from some of their favorite people and Mommy and Daddy are loving all the help! Sun River is such a perfect place for families and Paul and I are definitely going to be bringing the boys back here. There are tons of bike trails everywhere so we just ride our bikes with the boys in the trailers. There are kiddie pools for the boys to play in (Andy kept saying "I'm SO excited!" as we played in the pool) and a wonderful playground and field area as well. Oh! I've got to get going as we're headed to the park!

How about something about Mommy and Daddy?!

This IS the Grass FAMILY Chronicles after all! Paul and I have committed to run a marathon this year. It's crazy, I know, but it's a good challenge. I think it is very important to model good exercise habits for our kids, and I love that they just take it all in. The other day, Caleb and Andy were pretending to go to San Francisco to run a marathon. They would go in their rooms and sleep in their "hotel" then come out, run a few laps and finish their race. It was so cute, but such a confirmation that what we do really makes an impression on them. Anyways, this post was supposed to be about Mommy and Daddy! We will be running the California International Marathon on December 2nd. I think that Michael (brother) and Take (friend) will be joining us. Anyone else?

We love Andy!

Andy is such a great kid. He is so active, but he's a super athlete stuck in a chubby two year old body. It's nice to see that he's starting to be able to do some of the things he wants to do. He is so gifted at sports - it will be interesting to see which ones he decides to focus on. He loves basketball, football, golf, tennis and t-ball so far...

Caleb's 4th birthday party

Birthday parties for little kids are crazy! We tend to invite all of our friends because it's usually a nice day for a bbq for Caleb's birthday, and this year was no exception. Ten of his closest friends came over for a great time of eating, playing and hitting the pinata! The weather was perfect and we all stayed out side and lounged in the grass. Caleb got lots a really great presents and he has had a blast playing with them!

A Day Out With Thomas... and the beach!

It's that time of year again... time to go for a ride on Thomas the train! We headed off to Hood River on what turned out to be a perfect weather day. The boys enjoyed the whole Thomas experience but I think it was a bit much for them. There was a little train that we rode on as well, and they seemed to like that a bit better than the actual Thomas train! After that, we headed off to a beach area that we had gone to last year. The water had gone down quite a bit, but they boys still enjoyed playing in the water and making a mess in the sand. All in all, a fun time!
